New Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth outlines Pentagon priorities

Pete Hegseth, newly sworn in as President Trump’s protection secretary, launched his set of priorities for the division on Saturday, saying the Pentagon would “put America first, and we are going to by no means again down.”

In a message to the Protection Division’s three million staff – together with some 1.3 million uniformed personnel – Mr Hegseth outlined three predominant priorities for his tenure.

First, he mentioned he supposed to “revive the warrior ethos and restore confidence in our navy.” Many navy consultants query the need, arguing that the armed forces have been targeted on struggle for years.

Second, Mr. Hegseth emphasised the strengthening of the nation’s industrial base – which accelerated after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine practically three years in the past – and streamlined the cumbersome processes of the military to purchase new weapons.

Lastly, he mentioned the Pentagon would “restore deterrence by defending our homeland” and dealing with allies within the Indo-Pacific area to confront a rising navy risk from China. He mentioned the navy will even help President Trump’s precedence “to finish wars responsibly,” presumably a reference to the struggle in Ukraine in addition to conflicts within the Center East.

“All of this will likely be accomplished with a concentrate on lethality, meritocracy, accountability, requirements and preparedness,” Mr. Hegseth mentioned.
